The New Caledonia Office des Postes et Télécommunications is proud to present this new 140 XPF stamp issue, designed by New Caledonian artist FAMAX and dedicated to the Judo Pôle Espoirs (young talents hub).
FAMAX is a master of graphic design, known for his bold and inventive interpretations of New Caledonia’s history. He draws on the visual codes of pop art and street art, using techniques like stencilling, collage, acrylics and spray painting. This new stamp features his graphic tribute to judo.
Founded in February 2016, the Judo Pôle Espoirs prepares promising young judo athletes for high performance sport, training around twenty youngsters aged 13 to 16, from all over New Caledonia, for a future in professional judo.
Under the auspices of the French Judo Federation, the New Caledonia Youth and Sports Department, the Local Education Authority and the New Caledonia Judo League, the Judo Pôle Espoirs seeks out and offers training to young judokas, while ensuring they continue their schooling with specially scheduled classes.
Attached to Edmée-Varin middle school and the Grand-Nouméa high school, the hub provides fifteen hours of weekly training for the young judo athletes at the Magenta martial arts centre.
