Description

10th Pacific Islands Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas

OPT-NC is delighted to announce the issue of this new permanent value stamp designed by Nicolas Molé and dedicated to the 10th Pacific Islands Conference, scheduled for November 2020 in Noumea.

The core theme for this year’s Conference on Nature Conservation and Protected Areas will be “Nature Conservation Action for a Resilient Pacific”. The conference is being coordinated by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP), the Pacific Islands Roundtable for Nature Conservation (PIRT) and a New Caledonian committee comprising the Government, the Provinces, the French Biodiversity Agency and the Agency for the Development of Kanak Culture (ADCK), and also representatives of civil society.

The aim is to work together to establish conservation policies for the Pacific Region, which will then be presented at the IUCN World Conservation Congress scheduled for January 2021 in Marseille, and thereafter at the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity.

Subsequently, an environmental baseline for Oceania will be used to establish a new strategic framework. Pacific Region ministers will make firm commitments to act to protect the biodiversity and ecosystems of the Pacific Islands.

The event will take place in Noumea and will feature presentations of New Caledonian conservation initiatives, and will also take the form of a virtual summit conference, with virtual exhibitions and side events.
